Sleep: Why It’s Important and How to Improve It
In the UK, 1 in 3 suffers from poor sleep. This has a negative effect on their work performance and life. But more worryingly, it increases the risk of serious medical conditions, including obesity, heart disease and diabetes: It also shortens life expectancy.
Conversely, sleep has many positive health benefits, including stress management, weight loss, exercise and improved mood. It’s also essential for memory, concentration and performance in cognitive tasks.
This interactive session gives an overview of the physiology of sleep, and discusses research that links sleep quality and quantity with ill-health and poorer performance. We then discuss practical strategies for improving sleep.
Workshop Outcomes: For everyone to:
- Understand the importance of sleep for achieving daily goals, enjoying life, and staying healthy.
- Have reflected on how they currently combat tiredness and their current sleep/bed time routine.
- Have considered strategies they can use to improve their sleep.
Available as: A 1 hour education session with Q&As or a half day workshop.
